The solo exhibition “Snaker” by Masato Mori will start at INS Studio from June 21 to July 21.
This exhibition serves as a ‘Satellite exhibition’ for his upcoming solo exhibition “HIGORO NO OKONAI (ヒゴロノオコナイ)” (May 25th to July 7th) at NANZUKA UNDERGROUND.
The show title “Snaker” is taken from a Tokyo based music label Snaker, which is a musical-library themed label curated by Mori’s longtime associate and musician 5ive. The label released the albums exclusively on vinyl and all artworks are commissioned by Mori.
Mori have continuously worked with the label and this exhibition will feature his 11 paintings used as cover artwork for the label, Alongside with several new large-scale paintings inspired by his daily life.
One of the featured works of this exhibition, “2nd Floor of My Parents’ House (実家の2階) (2011),” portrays every detail of the room with using only spray paint, which has been adapted into 11 new painting.
In recent years, he has also created two large-scale pieces depicting his experiences during the 2023 Vietnam tour with 5ive and Powder, rendered as illustrated diaries.
This exhibition will be the first to showcase the original artworks of the Snaker series. Through their various works, we hope you will experience their visual and musical collaboration for over decades.
The opening reception will be on Friday, June 21st, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m Furthermore, an after-party with a support of NANZUKA and Thinner Groove will take place at Omotesando VENT after the reception, starting from 11 p.m.
この度、INS Studioでは、モリマサト（Masato Mori）の個展「Snaker」を開催致します。
本展は、NANZUKA UNDERGROUNDにて開催されるモリの新作個展「ヒゴロノオコナイ」（5/25〜7/7）のサテライト会場となっており、音楽レーベル「Snaker」との共同企画展です。同レーベル内のアートワークを担うモリが、これまでに制作してきた「Snaker」のカバービジュアル11点のペイント作品と共に、日常生活からインスピレーションを受けて制作された複数の大型作品を展示致します。
旧友でもある5iveが主催する現代版ライブラリー・ミュージックレーベル「Snaker」。世界中のアーティストがライブラリー・ミュージックの現代版として「Snaker」に残した音源は、デジタル配信されることなくレコード盤のみでリリースされ、全てのアルバムにモリのアートワークが施されています。
本展のメインビジュアルである「実家の2階（2011）」は、様々な「柄」が混在したモリの部屋の様子がスプレーペイントのみで描かれたもので、そのパターンをトリミングし、「Snaker」のカバービジュアルとして新たに制作された11点のペインティング作品（近年では音源から着想を得て、柄以外のモチーフを描いた作品も制作）と2023年、5iveとPowderのベトナムツアーに同行した際の実体験を絵日記として描いた大型作品2点を展示します。
10年以上継続されてきたモリの唯一のコミッションワークでもある「Snaker」シリーズ初の展覧会であり、過去作から最新作まで会場内の作品は全て初公開となっております。過去〜現在へと続く時間の経過も合わせてご覧いただけます。
本展のオープニングレセプションは、6月21日(金)18:00-21:00 に開催。 尚、オープニング当日の深夜23:00から表参道VENTにて、ThinnergrooveとNANZUKAによるジョイントアフターパーティー「ヒゴロノオコナイ」を開催致します。
